OVERVIEW

  1. Physical Education is a sequential education program that concentrates on developing and maintaining each student’s overall fitness and provides students with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and attitudes to lead a healthy lifestyle.

  2. The Program is designed to develop the mental, emotional, physical, and social aspects of living necessary for a happy and productive life.

  3. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of team and individual sports, which include skills, rules, and game strategy, as well as physical fitness.

  4. Emphasis in the program is placed on providing an opportunity for individual growth and success.

COURSE GOALS

  1.  To create and maintain physical and mental fitness.

  2. To develop a basic knowledge of skills, strategies, sportsmanship and personal cleanliness.

  3. To encourage growth through interaction with others in individual and team activities.

  4. To develop leadership skills, encourage the proper care of personal and school property, and to respect the rights of other students.

  5. To instill an attitude of worthy use of leisure time through activity at school, home, and in the community.

LOCKS &AND LOCKERS

 

  1. Each student will be issued a locker in the locker room to store gym clothes and items needed for gym.

  2. LOCKS ARE THE STUDENTS RESPONSIBILITY.

  3. All personal items are to be kept in your own assigned locker. Hebron High School is not responsible for lost or stolen items in the locker room. (Clothes, money, phones, etc.)

  4. It is important that lockers are locked at all times.

 

 

LOCKER ROOM CONDUCT AND GUIDELINES

 

  1. All students are responsible for picking up after themselves leaving the locker room cleaner than they found it.

  2. Yelling, cursing, horseplay, snapping towels, etc. will not be tolerated and will be dealt with according to the student handbook.

  3. Any damage to the locker room will be dealt with according to the student handbook.

DRESS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The following dress code will be strictly enforced for physical education in grades 7 – 12.

  1. Tennis shoes and socks must be worn at all times.(separate from your school shoes)

  2. Athletic shorts or sweat pants must be worn to P.E. class with the waistband at or above the hips. (Short shorts, spandex will not be accepted as appropriate dress. Shorts worn to P.E. may not be worn to class.)

  3. Boys and girls MUST wear full-length T-shirts or tank tops. (Cut offs, spaghetti strap tank tops, shirts with profanity, reference to alcohol drugs or sex are unacceptable.)

  4. Failure to dress-out for P.E. may result in loss of credit for P.E... Physical Education is a required course for graduation from Hebron High School.

  5. No undergarments can be showing.

  6. No large earrings, watches, or bracelets are to worn to class.

  7. No hats or bandannas will be worn in class.

  8. Gym clothes must be taken home and washed weekly.

GRADING

  1. Points are earned for class participation, skills tests, attitude, sportsmanship, dress, and work ethic are all incorporated in the student’s final grade.   Students will receive 10 pts per day for participation.  

Grades will also be taken on written tests and student projects.

  1. If you are absent or not dressed with a written excuse you can make up to 10 pts by doing a sports report. The report must sight all resources used.  If plagiarizing occurs, the student will get no credit for the report.  The report must be one page, single spaced using 14 pt. font.

  2. Excused  = Doctor’s Note

  3. If you choose not to do a report you will lose up to 10 pts.

  4. Participation - If student does not dress (unexcused) they will lose 10% from their PE grade and will be required to WALK the entire period.   The student will walk solitarily; this will not be a social activity.   After the 2nd unexcused not dress a disciplinary referral will be written.

  5.  Medical problems, asthma, etc. inhaler, or any medical condition must be reported!

  6.   Students are responsible for making up work.  I will not chase them down to make sure work is completed. 

  7. Extra-Credit: No options for extra credit will be given. 

  8. The grading scale is per handbook.

 

 

CLASS PROCEDURES

 

  1. Change as soon as you enter the locker room. You have 5 minutes to be in the gym before you are considered tardy.

  2. Once you’ve entered the gym, you will go to your assigned warm-up location while attendance is taken.

  3. You will remain in the gym fully engaged in activity until you have been dismissed to change.

  4. You are not allowed to leave the gym before the final bell rings without teacher permission.
